Lanark was established in 1861. It is a beautiful, peaceful rural community located in Northwest Illinois. It is located in Carroll County. We are 5 minutes south of Lake Carroll, 20 minutes east of the Mississippi River,  and 2 hours west of Chicago. The city is known for its stately trees, historic, picturesque business district and magnificent homes, both old and new.

Lanark is proud to be within the Eastland School District with its excellence in academics as well as its sports and other extracurricular activities. Eastland has produced State Championship victories in football, volleyball, basketball, track, band, wrestling, FFA, and more. The Eastland Junior-Senior High School is located in Lanark.

There are plenty of recreation opportunities nearby with a  lake, the Mississippi River, golf courses,  a nationally known summer stock playhouse theater, movie theater, camping, hunting, fishing, and much more. Read more about Lanark…

The City of Lanark is Accepting Applications to fill the Appointed Position of City Treasurer.

Applications may be picked up at City Hall, resume’ strongly encouraged but not required. Applicant must be a resident of the City of Lanark.

**Maintenance Department News**

MONDAY BRUSH PICK-UP INFORMATION; Items that will be picked up: Bush/Shrub Trimmings, Tree Trimmings, Storm Damage  NO YARD WASTE- Rocks, Grass, Flowers, Dirt, Whole Trees

LEAF PICK-UP INFORMATION; With the fall season here, the City of Lanark Maintenance Department will be conducting their annual leaf pick-up. Starting Monday October 9th, leaves will be picked up in town on the East side of Broad St, and on Tuesday October 10th, leaves will be picked up on the West side of Broad St. This pattern continues on the following Monday and Tuesday until weather no longer permits. Again, no sticks, trash, grass clippings, wood, yard waste etc.

Do You Have a Problem Tree?

The City of Lanark Tree Board has been re-established, and is responsible for identifying problem trees that need to be trimmed or removed. If you have a tree that is in need of such attention, and you believe (or if you are not sure) that it is considered a “City Tree”, you may reach the Tree Board President, Mark Johnson by phone at 815/238-7964. He will be able to help make a decision on your tree concern.
